Dear ladies and gentlemen,

Some Chin young men and students have escaped from Burma as the consequences of Saffron Revolution that rose up during September 2007 in Burma. The Chin young men and students formed Chin Exiled Students Union in December 2007 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This is the 61st Chin National Day message from CESU.

  1. On this special historic day of the Chin people, we would like to encourage all the Chin people around the globe to maintain and celebrate the Chin National Day every year. 20 February is a historic and meaningful day for the Chins because all the Chins were able to achieve national solidarity and unity on this very day. On February 20, 1928 Chin Hills Union Organization was born. On February 20, 1938, the Chin patriots submitted 9 proposals to the colonial government. On February 20, 1948, a general assembly was held in Falam in which over 5,000 representatives from various corners of the Chinland were attended. On February 20, 1951, the first Chin National Day was held in Mindat. Therefore, today is the historic day that our forefathers established unity and oneness among the diverse Chin tribal groups. Today is the day that our patriotic leaders had been layout unity, democracy, and equality for various classes of the Chin people and this very day, the Chin national spirit was born. Today is the day that will be recognized by the whole world as the existence of the Chin people in our fatherland, the Chinland, as a nation among the nations. Moreover, today is the day that the Chin people revamp our cultural identities, our literature, and even ourselves with the Chin patriotic spirit, unity, care and love for the Chinland. Therefore, it is the responsibility of all the Chin people to maintain this remarkable historic day. Thus, any attempt to demolish the tradition of the Chin National Day must be avoided by the Chin people.
  1. Peace be with you all the Chin young people and students all over the world. As we all know, many Chin students have left our beloved Chinland, our fatherland due to the ongoing military persecutions, discriminations and endless civil wars within the country. Those tragedies affected the lives of many young people who are thirsty of education. The so-called nice education under military regime has mixed their poisonous political ideology with the education. The main objective of the regime’s educational policy is that to prolong military dictatorship in Burma, which has weakened our ability to set the right thinking, and intoxicated our abilities to see the truth. We can now evidently see that this educational system has also consumed the Chin nationalism and our perspectives in the Chin national politics. Moreover, the Chin young people have been struggling under such educational crisis because the Chin State has not been granted even a single University. Therefore, in this special occasion, we exhort all the Chin youth around the world to pursue higher education as high as we can in order to build up the development of our own society and for the peace of the world.
  2. At the same time, we request to the governments of the country in which the Chin people and other Burma ethnic students take refuge, and to the international organizations for your kind consideration to assist the Chin refugee students exiled from Burma their home country and lost the opportunity to pursue their higher education. We request universities and colleges to put a deep concern for the exiled students from Burma in order that the underprivileged might have the opportunity to gain what they have longed for.
